Uruguay is expected to experience a significant heatwave in the second week of September, with temperatures reaching unusually high levels. The MetSul weather service has issued a warning for an "exceptional heatwave" with temperatures ranging from 40°C to 45°C. This heatwave is attributed to a "heat bubble" in Brazil that is expected to expand and bring hot air to Argentina, Uruguay, and Rio Grande do Sul.
Mario Bidegain, a meteorologist advising the Uruguayan National Meteorological Institute (Inumet), has confirmed the unusual temperature increase, describing it as a "strong rise in temperatures and anomalies." He anticipates that the heatwave will begin in the first half of September, making it one of the hottest periods ever recorded in Brazil. Bidegain has also noted that this week will see "anomalies in maximum temperatures", exceeding normal levels by one or two degrees, indicating a "rather warm start to September."
According to Bidegain, the ECMWF model predicts "average temperature anomalies" with a "strong rise" starting on September 9th. He has also specified that some departments will experience maximum temperatures reaching 32°C.
