As a bill to allow terminally ill people in England and Wales to end their own lives enters parliament, supporters of the law change are speaking out. Peter Wilson, the husband of Beverly Sand, who took her own life after being diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer, shared his experience with the Guardian. Sand, who was alone when she died, left a note for her husband asking for forgiveness and expressing her love for him. Wilson was away for a couple of days at the time of her death, and he was denied the opportunity to be with her in her final moments.
